The Flatbed Safety & Securement Group (FSSG) was founded as Facebook group in 2022 by Dan Shipley to address a significant gap in public knowledge within the flatbed trucking industry. Dan's inspiration stemmed from his own experience when he was transferred to the flatbed division at his company. Despite the critical importance of proper securement and safety in this field, he received no formal training, either in the classroom or on the job. Recognizing this as a widespread issue, Dan established FSSG to provide essential training and resources, aiming to enhance safety and securement practices across the industry.

In 2024, Dan Shipley and Daniel Kinsman took the important step to make FSSG more publicly available by creating educational materials and developing more options to make safety and securement in the flatbed industry more accessible. Their efforts included the creation of comprehensive guides, video tutorials, and interactive training modules designed to educate both new and experienced flatbed drivers.
